It is hard to believe that Santa is about to head down the chimney—it seems like we were just in the yard hiding Easter Eggs. Right after the big man makes his appearance, we will be gifted with a fresh start in 2016. Social media is no longer a new “toy” but has become more mainstream in our everyday lives. 1. Buy buttons will become mainstream

It is not a secret that social media has been driving e-commerce for some time, but it will be ramping up in 2016 as social media continues to take on a bigger role with consumers in the buying cycle. Facebook and Pinterest introduced their buy buttons earlier this year and Instagram wasn’t too far behind. Pinterest’s Buy it button and Instagram’s recently launched ads  with Shop Now buttons allow users to buy products directly through the app or platform. It is estimated that all social media platforms will have a variety of a buy button by the end of 2016. (Forbes)

2. Interactions with audiovisual media

Social media video is no longer limited to YouTube. Other platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram have jumped on board with video. With increasing competition, it will drive innovation in the development of video. With more videos, as volume increases, users will gain greater control over what is seen in their news feed.

3. It will get even more personal

Business has been consumed with trying to gain as many fans possible but it turns out that friend’s activity is just as important as fans themselves. Friends of fans are extremely important—they are more likely to visit a brand’s Facebook Page or website, purchase a brand’s products and become fans themselves.
