With online competition for attention growing fiercer every day, standing out on social is no longer a suggestion—it’s a necessity. For many brands, it can be tricky to break the classic mold and go beyond the simple (but admittedly tried-and-true) image and caption method. But, why settle for ordinary when there are countless free apps and other resources to take your message to the next level? If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve taken a simple Instagram post and revamped it ten different ways using our favorite tools.

Our inspiration

Brief yet informative, this short and sweet Instagram post showcases a new product from Wahine Media client, Patti Bruce Arts. By illustrating the backstory behind the artwork, utilizing a call-to-action, and garnishing with relevant hashtags, the audience gets the message loud and clear.

But, what if there was a way to say the same thing and stand out from the pack, simultaneously? We’ve cultivated our top ten ways to go beyond image and caption.

1. Magisto

If you’re not too confident in your video editing skills, let Magisto do the heavy lifting. We created this video using Magisto’s free membership option, although there are premium memberships that let you dive deeper into video preferences. All you have to do is upload a few short video clips or photos, choose an editing theme, and Magisto’s A.I. will create a quick and shareable video perfect for any platform—in moments!

We used a combination of photo and video, focusing on the mountain range at Kualoa Ranch, which was the inspiration behind the art printed on Patti Bruce’s canvas loafers. In context, this would be a great option to use on Instagram in a multi-video post showcasing the variety of art prints featured on the shoes.

2. Repost user-generated content

Let your audience do the talking! A new voice and a new perspective can do wonders for adding a captivating twist to a classic post or Instagram story. Like we mentioned in this blog post, “utilizing UGC in advertising and on social media helps encourage a positive relationship with your followers. Not only that, but it helps you by creating a more human image for your brand by showing regular people and by filling up content voids.”

If you come across an Instagram story (like this one!) mentioning your brand in a positive way, respond to the message and share it with your followers. A marvelous response to this post would be re-sharing and saying, “Looking good! Such a fun print. Explore more Patti Bruce art wares using the link in bio.”

3. Pixaloop

For an app with the slogan, “breathe life into your photos,” Pixaloop is a stellar way to captivate your audience with a creative twist. This free app allows you to animate your photos with simple, subtle motion. By freezing certain aspects of your photo and animating the rest with self-created “paths,” you’re able to add realistic motion to oceans and brings clouds to life.

Drawing attention to your post without being obnoxious, Pixaloop creations are a fun way to break through the noise on an Instagram feed or jazz up an Instagram story.

4. Splice

Splice is a user-friendly video editor available on your mobile device and desktop. It’s an easy way to create short video clips and photo montages with countless features like slow motion, music, and captions.

By briefly highlighting the inspiration behind the artwork, a short video paints the picture of a dreamy island at sunset.

5. GIPHY

Using other Adobe Creative Suite applications like InDesign and Photoshop can seem a bit tedious when you’re just trying to jazz up an Instagram story. For quick, unique creations on the fly, we turn to GIPHY, a website where you can create your own GIFs to customize a variety of social postings.

6. Go live

Going live on Instagram is an easy and authentic way to connect with your followers. Communicate with your core audience in real-time. Answer questions or simply give your followers an inside look at what goes on behind the scenes.

7. Add some sparkle to your stories using Unfold

By outsourcing your Instagram story creation to specialized apps, your brand will standout among the stories utilizing the standard fonts and features. Unfold allows you to create a cohesive story theme with photo highlights and neat caption spaces.

8. Embrace trends

It seems like every day there is a new trend or meme to participate in.  As a brand owner, the opportunity is yours for the taking. Depending upon your brand and audience demographic, utilizing platforms such as TikTok can help raise brand awareness in a fun, lighthearted way.

A recent trending topic on TikTok featured a sound clip from Iggy Azalea’s song, Work. TikTok creators emerged with funky footwear creations alongside the lyrics, “walk a mile in these Louboutins.”

Lucky for us, a viral footwear trend is a fun and relevant opportunity to showcase Patti Bruce’s new canvas loafers.

9. Adobe Photoshop Sketch

There’s a reason Buzzfeed’s Tasty recipe videos are so popular. People love seeing the process! Photoshop Sketch allows you to create art using drawing tools like pencils, pens, markers, and watercolor brushes to create all the textures and blending effects you’d get on paper. Even cooler, Photoshop Sketch creates a timelapse video of your masterpiece from start to finish.

Sharing the process will look different for everyone depending upon the brand. For Patti Bruce, being able to showcase the creation of artwork is a unique option. Check out this clip of Patti creating her logo.

10. Play 20 questions

If you’ve never used Instagram’s “Questions sticker” feature on your story, now’s your chance. Here’s a quick tutorial to understand the basics.

You might be wondering, “how can I use this feature to send the same message I’d put in a caption?” It all comes down to the question you ask. Focus on open-ended questions that can lead to a broader discussion, rather than questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”—where the “Poll Sticker” would be a better option.

A stellar call-to-action question for our post would be: “Drop all Qs about our new Glowing Kualoa print shoes!” This question has potential for us to share information about sizing, where/how to buy, and details about the art.

Sometimes, you might need a little boost to get the conversation started. Utilizing a few planted questions from a friend can help aid the conversation in the right direction and encourage engagement from other users. Whether followers ask a question themselves or simply keep a watchful eye on your story, curious for answers, the Questions sticker is a fabulously fun way to share information.

With the endless apps and software available, entering the creative social media realm can be a daunting task. There’s no need to venture out on your own. If you’re in need of a trusty sidekick for your superhero brand, give us a call.
